Abstract :
Our MRT system is highly dependent on electric power to meet the public transportation needs. In Singapore, our dependence on electricity has not been taken for granted and it has always been a long-term objective to be energy efficient not only in terms of operational cost but also due to environmental responsibility. In Singapore, in order to move reliably millions of passengers day in day out, the electric bill can be pretty hefty, in the order of millions of dollars. This paper highlights the various energy conservation measures currently adopted for our Rapid Transit System as well as the some of the ongoing efforts in seeking out alternative energy conservation measures
