  • Abstract
New decision support tools are becoming operational to support the achievement of the Free Flight concept. Two such capabilities, the User Request Evaluation Tool (URET) and Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC), have plans for deployment such that they will-be-colocated at most if not all en route facilities by 2005. Progress in getting each developed was made by taking an independent path to deployment. The only integration accomplished will be in the use of critical Host Computer System data and computing resources. Each system will bring benefits to the aviation community in the areas of controller efficiency in user service delivery, safety, and user cost savings. In particular, the user cost savings are important in providing justification for funding of additional enhancements and airline investment in future avionics. This paper postulates an integration, strategy and explores what additional benefits could be gathered when the two systems are integrated
