Abstract :
A 45 kW prototype machine with 12-slot-10-pole, q = 0.4 structure was constructed in order to obtain practical experiences of concentrated wound PM-machines. The measurement results provide essential information to verify the analytical calculations and also the results obtained with 2D FEA. The winding type studied consists of concentrated pole windings. The number of slots per pole and phase q < 0.5. Concentrated wound motors create harmonics and sub-harmonics, which may cause extra heating, additional losses and vibration. Therefore, the importance of manufacturing a prototype machine of considerable power e.g. 45 kW should be stressed. It was in the authors´ interest to verify if the harmonics have a great impact on the losses.
