Abstract :
The paper reports the results of an experimental investigation of a multi-phase two-motor drive system, consisting of a series connection of a five-phase induction machine (IM) and a five-phase synchronous reluctance machine (Syn-Rel). The two machines are controlled independently although a single five-phase voltage source inverter is used as the supply. A brief overview of the operating principles is provided first. This is followed by a description of the experimental rig. Decoupling of control within the two-motor drive is illustrated by means of experimental results, which visualise the dynamic performance of the vector-controlled drive system during acceleration, deceleration and speed reversal.
