Abstract
Detailed modelling and performance assessment of a three-phase active front-end driven ASD was conducted in PSCAD/ EMTDC. Studies were developed to identify and evaluate the dynamic performance characteristics of the ASD and a sensitivity assessment to various voltage disturbances was carried out. The ASD is controlled using typical closed loop V-Hz and also closed-loop vector control. A voltage sag generator was used to conduct simulations and sensitivity assessments of ASD and other power electronic applications such as variable-speed wind turbines based on Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). The ASD and DFIG sensitivity performance was assessed in the event of three-phase, two-phase and single-phase voltage sags for typical speed and torque operating conditions. Voltage tolerance curves were also obtained and analysed for both active front-end ASD and DFIG with different types of voltage sags and torque-speed operating conditions.
