Abstract
Web server aging refers to the phenomenon that web servers show progressive performance degradation after long-time continuous execution. Traditionally, analysis and detection of web server aging have been restricted by the nondeterministic nature. The immune-inspired negative selection algorithm (NSA) succeeds in detecting novel aging without aging samples, because of its adaptive and learning features. However, the NAS generates more false positives (FP) due to the crisp separation between self and non-self. As a hotspot method of artificial immune systems, dendritic cell algorithm (DCA) improves the NSA to some extent owing to its low FP rate and quick action characteristics. This paper proposed a method to apply the dendritic cell algorithm to detect and analyze web server aging. As a novel algorithm inspired by both theoretical immunology and observed immune principles and models, DCA would be a beneficial method to improve the quality of service in web server systems.
