Abstract :
Hydro power plant electronic speed governor are engineering customized designs, as high accurate and reliable as possible. The DC-DC power converter used as multiple voltage power supply, must have at least the same reliability of the governor itself, to avoid frequently failures and turbine emergency shutdowns. Project design and final user right equipment maintenance, play a main role in reliability and service life. All this is what the standard IEEE 1573-2003 calls the Environmental Interface and Environmental Interface Adaptation. An example of a power supply series of failures, lead to specifying new power converters, and how this changed the number of hydro turbine shutdown statistics. A case study of an hydro power plant is described.
