Abstract
The power industry in India is changing from regulated industry to a competitive industry. Power sector restructuring program in recent years along with new electricity act in India has paved the path for the development of a power market in the country. In this transition phase, it is now essential to design the most appropriate market suitable for the country. The market design should consider the view of leading market models that has proved successful in different parts of the world, along with localized issues, which are very specific to the country
