Abstract :
Innovation in a technology area sometimes correlates to patent activity. U.S. patent activity for five technical areas of the PVSC 2011 was tracked according to U.S. patents issued and U.S. applications. The data sets were compared to U.S. patent activity in the general PV area and to all U.S. patent activity. A review of the USPTO´s green technology pilot program is also provided along with an overview of the current status of patent reform legislation.
