An Integrated Library Management System for Book Search and Placement Tasks

This paper proposes and implements an integrated library management system for book search and placement tasks. Book searching task is carried out with the help of a mobile phone. The user can check the availability of a particular book by title or author name using his mobile phone. The information received by the user contains book code number and location of the book inside the shelf. Book placement task involves placing the book inside the shelf according to the assigned code number using image processing. Digital camera mounted at the shelf base captures the image of serial number tag pasted on the book. After the image has been processed, book is automatically placed inside the self with the help of a mechanical structure driven by three direct current (DC) motors. MATLAB® programming environment has been used in developing the system.
