Abstract
This paper takes the reader from the birth of the small, deep ocean, spherical glass instrument housing using unreliable greasy rubber gaskets to today´s sophisticated, precision, large volume reliable unit. Glass housing penetrators for electricity, vacuum, water pressure, fiber optics, and optics are also described. Implosions and an explosion are covered in this overview of the subject
