Abstract :
Summary form only given. By considering uniform emission of electrons over a finite strip of width W in a planar gap of gap separation D, we extend the classical 1-dimensional Child-Langmuir law to 2 dimensions. The analysis is done with two simulation codes, MAGIC and OOPIC; which yield similar results. These numerical results have been synthesized into a scaling law~3, which expresses the non-relativistic 2-dimensional limiting current density, J/sub CL/(2), in units of the classical 1-dimentional Child-Langmuir value, J/sub CL/(1).
