Abstract :
A model of an expert system entitled EXMAS (expert maintenance system) has been developed for the conceptual diagnosis and maintenance of flexible-manufacturing-system (FMS) mechanical systems. The elements of the theory of automata, knowledge blocks, artificial intelligence tools and techniques have been used in the building of this model. In its present stage the model is developed as the prototype for certain working stations, so that later some of its modules may be linked with the higher levels (between individual working stations) and the integrated software product for other FMS functions
