  • Abstract
In a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is a key component to extend the lifetime of the WSN consisting of sensor nodes. Receiver-Initiated MAC (RI-MAC) is designed to reduce the energy consumed in the idle listening. RI-MAC may not spend energy efficiently since the data frame may collide frequently in the heavy traffic condition. We have proposed the Receiver-initiated Hybrid Access MAC (RHA-MAC) protocol which uses both scheduled and random access. We have implemented our RHA-MAC into the TinyOS platform. The throughput performance shows that our proposed RHA-MAC outperforms compared with RI-MAC under the heavy traffic condition.
