Abstract
In this paper, we show that discretization of a simple second-order sliding mode control system can lead to very complex behaviors for different sampling periods. It is shown that the system trajectory period is related to system parameters as well as the initial condition. The properties of complex system trajectories are studied. The condition to ensure the period-2 symbolic sequence is given. Higher order periodic behaviors are also explored
