Abstract
A pattern-directed expert system for recognition of chromosomes has been developed. The system consists of six models. A frame method for representing knowledge is used to describe the structural features of chromosomes, a mixed method of mixed forward and backward reasoning is used to construct an inference mechanism. A confidence factor model is derived for the system, and the maximum confidence factor is obtained
