Abstract
This paper investigates reduced complexity UWB receiver design. By analyzing the results of realistic channel simulations, practical receiver structures are developed which capitalize on certain favorable channel conditions to enable physically achievable designs. Simulations of RAKE receivers over the IEEE 802.15.3a channel are developed. Analysis of these simulations reveal certain channel conditions which can be exploited to enable simplified receiver design while still delivering acceptable performance. An algorithm based on these observations leads to the proposal of a novel reduced complexity receiver architecture which is suitable for VLSI implementation
