Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. A sudden creation of a plasma half space is a mathematical idealization of a rapid creation of a plasma medium with a sharp boundary. The steady state reflected field in free space is comprised of A and B waves. A waves have the same frequency as the source wave and the B waves have shifted frequencies. A more realistic dynamic plasma medium problem should model the /spl omega//sub p//sup 2/ (z,t) profile by /spl omega//sub p//sup 2/(z,t)=/spl omega//sub p1//sup 2/+(/spl omega//sub p2//sup 2/-/spl omega//sub p1//sup 2/)f/sub 1/(z)f/sub 2/(t)/sub (1/) where /spl omega//sub pt/ is the plasma frequency of the medium 1 as z/spl rarr/-/spl infin/ and t/spl rarr/-/spl infin/ and /spl omega//sub p2/ is the plasma frequency of the medium 2 as z/spl rarr/-/spl infin/ and f/sub 1/(z) and F/sub 2/(t) functions describe the transition of the plasma frequency from its asymptotic values. The effects of non zero values for L (range length) and T/sub r/ (rise time) on the reflection coefficients R/sub A/ and R/sub B/ of A and B waves will be discussed.
