Abstract :
Time delay spread and signal level measurements were made in and around houses in a suburban area at 1.9 GHz in St. Louis, Missouri, over outside-to-inside paths. This area is to be used as a wireless local loop test bed. Root mean square (rms) time delay spread observed was 566 nanoseconds (ns). This dropped to under 158 ns for cell radii under 150 meters. The distance exponent of path loss was 3.8. The average additional path loss inside the houses was 4.3 dB, compared to the outside. The rms time delay spread doubled, statistically, for every 19 dB increase in path loss. The measurements assist in the design and coverage reliability estimation of wireless local loop service
