Abstract
Standards are being developed by the cellular industry to support vehicular communication networks. The cellular digital packet data (CDPD) standard has been developed for analog cellular systems (AMPS) by a consortium of cellular carriers. Data standards for CDMA cellular systems are being developed by the CDMA Development Group. Both CDPD and CDMA-based cellular data standards provide the necessary communication technology to support vehicular communication networks. The paper provides a summary of the standards being developed in the area of wireless data communication networks
