Abstract :
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel type of PMD (polarization mode dispersion) compensator (PMDC) that separates PSP (principal states of polarization) control from DGD (differential group delay) control with an automatically adaptive 40 Gb/s PMDC module manufactured on PCBs. The results showed that this method provided a very fast response time of ∼2 μs to PSP change and allowed a reduction in compensation time compared with the conventional method of alternately controlling PSP and DGD.
