Abstract :
The results of investigations into outage probability and spectral efficiency of indoor radio are presented here. The motivation is to determine optimal placement of base stations by considering interference constraints within a building. Expressions for signal to interference ratio and outage probability are developed to achieve this. In particular, emphasis has been placed on the three-dimensional nature of the indoor environment. Initially, the signal to interference is determined without consideration for signal variation with mobile units placed in worst case positions. Outage probability expressions are then developed with mobile units allowed to roam freely and with signal variation. Results demonstrate that frequency reuse can be employed to obtain optimal spectral efficiency
