Abstract :
This paper presents a supervisory knowledge-based system for monitoring and control of regional voltage profile using fuzzy logic. The control strategies are defined by the system operators based on their experience and on off-line studies, which are translated into rules of a fuzzy inference system (FIS). The paper focuses on regional hierarchical level, with emphasis on voltage control by power plants. The study region analyzed is the Rio de Janeiro (Rio) area, an energy importing area part of the South/Southeastern Brazilian system, generally constrained by voltage-related problems
