Abstract :
In this paper optimal transmission-rate and power allocation for multilink portable radio networks is investigated. The rate allocation problem is considered first for a static AWGN channel, which corresponds to the case when the portable unit is fixed in its position. The performance criterion is chosen to be the total bit error rate of the system and it is shown that the optimal link rates are those equalising the bit SNRs. The problem of allocating total transmitted power available to the system and both the power and the rate, is also considered from the same point of view. The case of slow-Rayleigh fading due to the human-induced motion of the portable is also investigated. The results reveal that rate allocation provides drastic improvement over the long term in comparison with the use of fixed rates
