Abstract

An SNMP MIB for the ST-II Protocol is presented. The ST-II Protocol is the Experimental Internet Stream Protocol Version 2. The MIB is composed of two parts. The first part strictly follows the components and structures given in C. Topolcic et al., (Experimental Internet Stream Protocol, Version 2 (ST-II), Request for Comments 1190). It is therefore generic. The second (and much smaller) part deals with structures which are not explicitly defined in and is therefore implementation dependent. This part initially covers the routing table. It is based on the structures which have been defined for the ST-II implementation which was developed at the IBM European Networking Center in Heidelberg, Germany. The MIB was designed by a team comprising specialists from both ends, multimedia as well as network management. The experiences gained are prototypical for the design of MIBs for similar protocols. The paper is intended to be a starting point for discussions and possible future standardization efforts
