Abstract :
Summary form only given. The demand for world-wide multimedia services has grown enormously during the past years. A global coverage is to be assured by establishing satellite networks. A main characteristic of these network is the direct connection between the satellites called ISL (inter-satellite link). Optical freespace communication is a serious alternative to micro-wave technology for the next generation of satellite networks. Even for connections to space probes optical links are no longer pure fiction.
