Abstract :
Selective harmonics elimination for the staircase voltage waveform generated by multilevel inverters has been widely studied for medium and high voltage applications. Most published strategies are for multilevel inverters with balanced dc levels and single switching per level. This paper proposes an Optimal Pulse Width Modulation (OPWM) method that utilizes equal area criteria and harmonic injection. In particular, for low modulation indexes, the weight oriented OPWM is proposed to determine switching angles to achieve accurate harmonic elimination.
