Abstract :
Pumped storage power plants have lots of functions such as load peak adjusting, load valley filling, frequency and phase regulation, emergency duty, flood protection, etc. They also have advantages of operating flexibility and fast response characteristics. Apparently they may play more and more important roles in construction of smart power grid today. In addition, control strategies and major components´ design principle of large pumped storage unit excitation system are introduced. It is in favor of promoting development of domestic large pumped storage units´ excitation systems and provides reference to design of similar excitation systems.
