Abstract :
This paper investigates the deterministic and statistical characteristics of harmonic currents generated by a cluster of gaming machines in a casino setting. These characteristics are obtained by measuring harmonic currents of a typical gaming machine in both standby mode and play mode. The net harmonic variations of a set of machines are then derived in terms of the percentage of units being played. Statistical characteristics of harmonics injected into the utility system by a random combination of machines in idle and play modes during peak period are obtained using some recorded data. It is found that significant harmonic cancellation takes place under some combinations due to phase dispersion between the currents corresponding to the two machine states.
