Title :
Implementation of the object-oriented paradigm in S-Plus
Author_Institution :
Pacific Northwest Lab., Richland, WA
Abstract :
The statistics package S-Plus implements elements and concepts from the object oriented (OO) paradigm and concepts which may be new to members of the intended user community. S-Plus provides an analysis environment and a programming language with a rich set of data manipulation, graphical display and mathematical functions. This paper is a first step toward developing training for beginning S-Plus users, who are statisticians rather than computer scientists, to provide them a background in object oriented technology which can help them use the object oriented features of S-Plus to better advantage
