Abstract :
A method for reproducible evaluation of FM reception systems is introduced. Switching and phasing diversity techniques are compared taking into account hardware effort, antenna behavior in fading scenario and audio processing quality of the radio. While switching diversity profits from selection of the best out of up to four antennas, an additional gain is performed via phasing diversity in those moments, where the S/N of two antennas is similar. It is shown, that statistically the availability of additional antenna signals yields higher improvement in S/N than additional gain due to co-phasing.
