Abstract :
The ITER Coil Power Supply System is characterised by a very large AC/DC conversion plant which produces a relatively high amount of reactive power and harmonic currents. Consequently, the ITER power supply system will include substantial reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering (RPC & HF) to reduce the reactive power and harmonic current down to the levels acceptable to the French/European 400 kV grid. This paper reports on the present design of the RPC & HF system taking account of the load power and grid requirements. The steady state and transient analysis has been performed using a detailed computer model which includes all main electrical parameters. The normal operating conditions and several different faults have been analysed and the main results are presented. The results show that the fault condition of fast load rejection may cause a relatively high overvoltage. Possible solutions to reduce the overvoltage are discussed.
