  • Abstract
A device for monitoring effectively the subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) in power systems is proposed in this paper. The device is based on a multi microprocessor system which is developed by using the advanced 16-bit MCS-98 single-chip processor. The only electrical parameter used in monitoring the SSO is electromagnetic power. The main functions of the device are as follows. The device can continuously monitor the SSO signal on-line. When the SSO happens, the device can give an alarm immediately and output the related data automatically. In addition, the device can analyse the SSO signal and give the related information independently in different frequency bands. The device is proved to be correct, effective, highly precise and reliable for monitoring the SSO through the function test, precision test and dynamic simulation experiment
