  • Abstract
A fuzzy logic controller is designed to implement a variable series capacitor VAr compensation in the transmission system of interconnected power systems. This compensation scheme is one of the most popular solutions to the overstretching of generation and distribution systems in the aspect of enhancing its stability; the concept is known as flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). Considerable increase in power throughput and significant improvement in the damping of electromechanical oscillations are achieved by implementing this device in the transmission systems. Sample simulation studies on a single machine infinite bus system show the effectiveness of the fuzzy logic controller of such a variable series capacitor for the enhancement of power system transient stability
