Abstract :
There is an on-going requirement for accurate on-line measurement of moisture in bulk material that allows for real time control of moisture content. Moisture content is a key parameter that impacts on material handling, but there are few suitable techniques that can be successfully applied for on-line measurement of moisture in bulk mineral applications. The handling characteristics of mineral ores and concentrates are crucial in obtaining good efficiency in ore transport and processing. This paper describes a microwave transmission instrument exhibiting high stability and dynamic range, suitable for moisture measurement in iron ore and mineral concentrates. High dynamic range allows the measurement of thick ore beds, while stability allows for high accuracy measurement. The benefits of high dynamic range and stability have been demonstrated through the results of industrial trials of the instrument
