Abstract :
Automated Target Recognition (ATR) based on Natural Resonance Frequencies (NRFs) embedded in Ultra Wideband (UWB) transient electromagnetic signatures have been extensively studied. To our knowledge, most studies concerning ATR using the E-Pulse technique are about radar targets in free space. Recent attempts have been made to apply the E-Pulse technique for subsurface target detection. In this paper, performance evaluation of a recently proposed subsurface target recognition technique based on the E-Pulse and Baum´s transform under different signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) is considered. Examples of target recognition of three different perfect electric conductor (PEC) targets sited below a frequency-dependent lossy halfspace are presented.
