Abstract :
Sound broadcasting from a geostationary satellite. to portable and vehicular receivers is one of the few space applications for which there are no enabling national or international regulatory provisions. After more than 10 years of study by the CCIR, WARC (World Administrative Radio Conference) ORB(2) considers the results of the studies and the proposals concerning satellite sound broadcasting submitted to the conference and will decide either to make regulatory provisions for the service in a segment of the radio frequency spectrum that extends from about 500 MHz up to 2000 MHz or to defer significant action to a future competent WARC. Four example satellite sound broadcasting systems studied by CCIR are described, and the conditions for sharing between the broadcasting-satellite service (sound) and terrestrial services
