  • Abstract
This paper presents the design of a new architecture of ATM switch for broadcasting DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer). We design the broadcasting DSLAM system architecture and the specified core switch for the DSLAM. The proposed switch consists of a set of basic switching units, named SM (switch module), and each SM constitutes a virtual ring to share the medium. The SM is composed of two core units, QMM (queue management module) and MPM (message passing module). QMM performs traffic control, routing, and interfacing. MPM performs medium access control and flow control. The proposed architecture can reduce the routing time of an incoming broadcasting cell. An efficient hardware architecture is proposed and simulated in VHDL. The test system was implemented on a FPGA chip in real time mode, and performed successfully.
