Abstract :
Detecting of partial discharges (PD) in gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is an important monitoring process. This paper describes the study of behavior of a surge due to PD in GIS. PD can be detected by detecting the electromagnetic wave radiating from the insulated spacer enclosures, because the coaxial central conductor and the enclosure are not completely in the insulating spacer part. An antenna can detect the electromagnetic wave. By detecting several waves from different propagating paths in the same time, PD location in GIS can be estimated. This system is applied to 500 kV GIS
