Abstract :
To study the radio propagation channel fading at 60 GHz, a 3D ray-tracing simulator is used to predict the wave propagation deterministically in a small indoor environment. Starting from the instantaneous received signals, the large-scale and small-scale fading of the line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight channels are analyzed and modeled for linear and circular polarized antenna schemes. It is shown that the large-scale fading can be well modeled by a lognormal distribution and the small-scale fading by a Rician distribution. Additionally, the multipath dispersion in time and space is analyzed by mapping the multipath waves into delay and angular domain. The analysis shows that the beamwidth of the TX-RX beams can be properly adjusted to reduce the multipath effect to a certain extent, which will provide useful information for designing 60-GHz systems with smart antennas.
