  • Abstract
This paper introduces some fundamental investigations into arcing phenomena in vacuum interrupters and SF6 rotating arc chambers including: (1) dielectric strength recovery in vacuum interrupters; (2) post-arc current in vacuum interrupters with axial magnetic fields; (3) lowering the chopping current level of vacuum switchgear by applying an axial magnetic field; (4) arc erosion phenomena and life tests in vacuum interrupters; (5) splitting and motion of diffuse arc cathode spots in an axial magnetic field; and (6) velocities and erosions of a rotating arc in SF6. By using these results, several new types of vacuum interrupters and rotating arc chambers may be developed
