Abstract :
This article is the result of research aiming to rationalize the commuting system of cities, and to make transportation more efficient and sustainable. Here we introduce a mobile application concept named “Green Daily Guide”, which we believe will motivate people to use public transport or other alternative means of transportation instead of private cars. The application is intended to take a part in the journey planning to prompt users to choose the smartest way of traveling. Our challenge was to make the intervention in users activity transparent and well integrated with everyday life. As a result we have got the concept which is a combination of pervasive computing and persuasive technologies. The persuasive technologies implemented in our application with the help of virtual rewards in a shape of facts, metaphors, statistic, and scores. We also propose the concept of an “eco-game” as a tool of motivation in which users can realize the scores earned by choosing alternative means of transportation.
