Abstract
An acoustic Doppler current profiler is used routinely for measurements of ocean currents by physical oceanographers. The instrument relies upon acoustic backscatter from biological particles in the water and is therefore a potential source of biological data. Examples of the different types of biological data are discussed in relation to concurrent physical measurements
