Abstract :
Summary form only given. We present spectroscopic studies of structural defects in poly(3-decylthiophene)s synthesized with different methods. The properties relating to the conjugation length are monitored through optical absorption and Raman scattering, structural properties were investigated using NMR spectroscopy. The polymers obtained with the FeCl/sub 3/ oxidation and by electropolymerization show mainly correlated defects in the enchainment. A lower number of defects, which are uncorrelated, is introduced with the Grignard reaction, yielding the polymer with the highest conjugation length. The extension of the defect free polymer is, however, very similar for the different studied polymers.
