Abstract
In this paper, the performance of turbo codes is investigated in a high capacity synchronous FH/SSMA cellular network. A new iterative scheme for updating the branch metrics of the turbo decoder is proposed. The performance of turbo codes is also compared with that of RS codes with parallel decoding. It is argued that, for this network architecture, turbo codes, with soft-input decoding, can achieve superior performance to the RS codes which are commonly used in asynchronous frequency hopping networks
