Abstract
Practically all measurement processes end up in making a decision, according to the result of a comparison between the measurement result and another given value, either a threshold or another measurement result. Moreover, in the recent years, thanks to the great diffusion of instruments based on digital signal processing, decisions are also required within the measurement process itself, and not only at its end. In order to make decisions, comparisons between different measurement results must be performed. Such a comparison requires a suitable ordering of the measurement results, which is not immediate since, due to the presence of measurement uncertainty, the measurement results cannot be expressed by means of simple scalar values. This paper proposes an immediate method, based on an original fuzzy ordering, for composing measurement results expressed in terms of random-fuzzy variables
