Abstract
From a mathematical point of view, the twisted fiber is an elliptic fiber in which the orientation of the major axis of the ellipse changes linearly with z. The authors describe the refractive index distribution, evaluate modes and polarization corrections for the cases of strong and weak twisting, discuss the topological phase and adiabatic tracking, and finally consider conversion of the angular momentum.
