Abstract :
This paper proposed a discrete-time sliding mode control (DSMC) approach for the position control of a brushless DC motor drive. Unlike the continuous time sliding mode control (CSMC) approach, the controller in this design does not employ a switching term. Consequently, the motor current does not switch frequently and the drive is free from the chattering drawback. The proposed scheme has been implemented with a DSP to control an experimental drive in real-time. The results show that it has good response and is insensitive to load disturbances and inertia variations
