Abstract :
There has been increasing interests on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) recently. PHEV conversion kits for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are available on the market and the automotive industry is also investigating the use of PHEVs. This paper explains a method of classifying PHEVs and analyzes and compares testing results of two power-split PHEVs and simulation results of a series PHEV. Results and analysis of PHEV engine and battery are presented. Fuel and electrical energy is shown for different drive cycles and operating modes. Finally, the challenges on PHEV testing procedure are discussed.
