Abstract :
In Y2010 Grameenphone Limited with partnership of University of Oslo launched a pilot program to operate their base transceiver station using solar power system in remote areas of Bangladesh. A model system has been implemented at Paharpur village of Azmirigonj Upazilla of Hobigonj. This project is a test case & moving towards green initiative. Around 500 base stations will be operated with similar power sources in the near future. In this paper we have presented an overview these renewable energy sources and their financial implications on the operation of Grameenphone Limited. A possible diversification of these power sources to local grid based community power project has also been discussed.
